What this course is
A free, self-paced textile technology course written for apparel people: fibre properties, yarn manufacturing, woven, knitted and nonwoven fabric formation, dyeing, printing and finishing, fabric testing and selection for end use. Four modules, each ending with a five-question quiz.
Who it is for
- • Merchandisers and technologists who approve fabric
- • Quality and laboratory staff assessing inbound fabric
- • Product developers choosing fabric for a performance claim
- • Textile students moving into apparel manufacturing
What you will be able to do
- • Explain how fibre and yarn choices show up as garment behaviour after wash
- • Read a woven or knit construction and predict its handle, stretch and stability
- • Say what dyeing and finishing can and cannot fix at the fabric stage
- • Assess an incoming fabric lot against the specification and the end use
- • Choose fabric for a stated end use and defend the choice with test evidence
Modules
Module 1 — Fibre and Yarn
Link fibre type and yarn structure to the properties a buyer actually specifies: strength, stretch, pilling, hand feel and shrinkage.
2 subjects · five-question quiz
Module 2 — Fabric Formation
Read woven, knitted and nonwoven constructions and predict what each will do in cutting, sewing and wear.
3 subjects · five-question quiz
Module 3 — Wet Processing and Finishing
Decide what dyeing, printing and finishing can deliver, what they cost in risk, and which garment faults trace back to wet processing.
2 subjects · five-question quiz
Module 4 — Fabric Quality
Assess an incoming fabric lot and select fabric for a stated end use with test evidence rather than habit.
3 subjects · five-question quiz
Certificate
Pass every module quiz and you can download a completion certificate from the certificate page. It is a self-study record, not an accredited qualification.
