Lot shade evaluation and reporting
Lesson 4 of 4
Objective
Evaluate shade across a lot without losing traceability, and document the basis of every decision.
Keep carton numbers and garment IDs with every piece you handle. Compare like panels — front with front, sleeve with sleeve — against the approved shade band.
Record two different things: the difference within one garment (panel to panel) and the difference between garments. Both matter, for different reasons.
Isolate suspect pieces with their IDs, and document what you compared, under which source, and against which reference.
Washed garments vary across the panel. Compare the equivalent panel areas one by one; do not judge from a single overlapping area.
Factory scenario: one darker carton
During lot evaluation, garments from carton 14 appear darker than the band. The inspector keeps them labelled by carton and garment ID, compares equivalent front panels with the band, records the result and sets the carton aside for a decision by the authorized person.
Common mistakes
- Mixing garments from different cartons on the table and losing their IDs.
- Comparing a front panel of one garment with a back panel of another.
- Reporting 'shade OK' with no reference ID or light source recorded.
Your action
Draft the column headings you would use on a lot shade report so that every row stays traceable.
