Approval mapping
Lesson 1 of 4
Objective
Map exactly which wash effects the Brand has approved, and where, before judging any garment.
Technical explanation
Identify the wash name and approved wash reference for the order.
Map the approved effects on a front and back outline: whiskers, honeycombs, abrasion, grinding, tints and any other specified effects, with their location and approximate extent.
This map becomes the comparison guide for every garment you inspect.
Worked case
Factory scenario: the unmapped effect
Garments in a lot show back-knee honeycombs. The inspector checks the approval map — honeycombs are not on the approved reference. The observation is recorded for comparison against the approved wash rather than accepted because 'it looks nice'.
Common mistakes
- Starting inspection without the approved wash reference.
- Mapping only the front.
- Treating every fashionable effect as approved.
Your action
Sketch a simple front/back outline and mark the effects on one approved wash you know.
