Straight answers about how the courses work — what they cost (nothing), what the certificates do and do not mean, and what happens to your progress.
Getting started
- Do I have to pay for the courses?
- No. Every chapter, lesson, value chain stage, quiz and certificate on GARMENT TECH Ed is free. There is no fee, no trial, no paywall and nothing is held back for paying learners.
- Do I need an account to study?
- No. You can read everything and mark your progress without signing up — your progress is saved in your own browser on that device. An optional free account exists only if you want your progress to follow you between devices.
- What does 'enrol' actually do?
- Enrolling on a course takes one click and simply records that you have started it, so the course and its progress appear on your dashboard. There is no application, no waiting list, no start date and no obligation to finish.
- Where should I begin?
- If you want a themed route, start with one of the two guided courses: Circular Economy in Garment Manufacturing, or Sustainable Fashion — evidence, impact and compliance. If you prefer the whole picture, start at Chapter 1 in the syllabus, or follow the 42-stage value chain course from consumer signal to circular recovery.
Courses and content
- What is the difference between chapters, lessons and stages?
- A chapter is an industry subject, such as cutting room technology or dyeing — 30 of them in total. Each chapter has a readable lesson that teaches it top to bottom. A stage is one step in the 42-step garment value chain, from consumer and market intelligence through to circular material recovery, showing where that knowledge is applied in practice.
- How long does a course take?
- The circular economy course is roughly 12 to 16 hours of reading and the sustainable fashion course roughly 10 to 14 hours. These are indicative estimates for reading at your own pace, not timetabled study hours — there is no deadline and you can stop and return whenever you like.
- What level are the courses pitched at?
- Intermediate. They assume you already know basic apparel terminology and are written for product developers, factory technologists, buyers, merchandisers and sustainability staff who need the technical detail rather than an introduction.
- Are there quizzes or assessments?
- Each chapter has a six-question multiple-choice self-check, marked instantly in your browser with explanations, plus open-ended practice questions. They are there for you to test your own understanding — they are not examinations, nobody else sees your answers, and your score never affects certificates.
Progress and certificates
- How is my progress tracked?
- You mark a chapter or stage complete yourself using the button on its page. Your dashboard then shows completed and remaining chapters, chapter lessons, stages and quiz scores, and updates live as you work — including in another tab.
- What certificates can I earn?
- Three: a 42-stage certificate once every value chain stage is marked complete, a 30-chapter certificate once every industry chapter is complete, and a full course certificate with a shareable badge once both sets are finished. Each one can be downloaded as a PDF carrying your name and completion date.
- Is the certificate an accredited qualification?
- No. It is a self-study record of what you have read and marked complete. No examination board, awarding body or regulator has assessed this material or the certificate, nothing is externally invigilated, and it carries no formal credit. Please describe it accurately if you share it.
Accounts and privacy
- What happens to my progress if I sign in later?
- Signing in gives you a private account record that follows you across devices. Progress already stored on the device stays separate unless you explicitly choose to import it, so shared-computer activity is never silently attached to your account.
- Can anyone else see my progress or quiz scores?
- No. Your dashboard is private to your account, it is kept out of search engines, and no other learner can read or change your records. Anonymous progress never leaves your own browser at all.
Accuracy and support
- Who writes the material and how is it checked?
- It is written by Sanjeewa Dehiwalage and reviewed against factory practice before publication. Figures given for metrics, tolerances and targets are indicative of common industry practice — they are not standards, legal limits or a substitute for the applicable standard, your buyer's requirements or your own testing.
- I think something is wrong. How do I report it?
- Please do — corrections are welcome. Use the contact form on the brand page, describe the passage and what you believe is incorrect, and the reply comes back to the email address you give.
- Can I use this material for training my team?
- Yes, for learning. You can read it, share links with colleagues and download the PDF handouts for your own study or team discussion. Please credit GARMENT TECH Ed and do not present it as accredited training or republish it as your own.
