Capstone · Knitwear and Circular Knit Products

Take one knit style from fabric to measurement control

A knit programme is moving to your factory: 20,000 pieces of a cotton-elastane knit product in four colours. Measurements and shade have failed at the previous supplier.

Who this is for: Knit product technicians, QA staff, merchandisers and product developers.

What you produce: A knit control file: fabric specification and shrinkage position, construction decisions, the measurement procedure, and the shade and defect ownership rules.

Nobody marks this for you. Write your own answer, compare it with the guidance under each task, then mark the capstone done when you are satisfied with it. Your writing is saved on this device, and to your account when you sign in.

  1. Task 1

Write the fabric specification and state the shrinkage and spirality position you require before bulk is accepted.

What a good answer contains: A good answer requires measured residual shrinkage and spirality per batch, with a limit and an action on failure, and links the allowance to the pattern.

  2. Task 2

Decide the construction: stitch and seam type for each main position, and the trims, with the reason for each choice.

What a good answer contains: A good answer matches stitch extension to fabric extension at every stretch position, and chooses trims that recover with the fabric.

  3. Task 3

Write the measurement procedure an inspector will follow, including relaxation, and the action when a point fails.

What a good answer contains: A good answer states relaxation time and surface, defines each point, and reacts by containing garments from the same batch rather than re-measuring until it passes.

  4. Task 4

Set the shade grouping rule and the ownership split between fabric faults and sewing faults.

What a good answer contains: A good answer groups by batch and component, and its ownership split is written so a fault has one owner and one corrective route.
