Lesson 3 of 4

Objective

Measure paired features reliably and compare them with the actual specification.

Inspect inside and outside of the rise, inseam and outseam seams, and both hems.

Measure paired features (left and right) from clearly defined points, with the garment in the same preparation for both measurements.

Compare the difference with the tolerance in the actual specification. If no tolerance is supplied, do not invent one — ask for it.

AI-generated training image — verify on a physical garment.

Compare both pocket positions using the same defined measurement points and the Brand tolerance.

Observation question

Which measurement points would you define so that both back pockets are measured the same way?

Compare both pocket positions using the same defined measurement points and the Brand tolerance.

Factory scenario: two rulers, two answers

Two inspectors get different inseam results because one measured from the crotch seam and the other from the crotch point. After agreeing the defined point in the spec, their results match.

Common mistakes

  • Measuring left and right from different points.
  • Using a tolerance from a different style.
  • Measuring one leg flat and one leg folded.

Your action

Write down the defined measurement points from one specification you use.
