Formula or method

Defects per hundred units (DHU-basis) % = total defects ÷ inspected units × 100, and may exceed 100%; defective units % = defective units ÷ inspected units × 100, and cannot exceed 100%.

Worked example

Substitution: Defects per hundred units (DHU-basis) % = total defects ÷ inspected units × 100, and may exceed 100%; defective units % = defective units ÷ inspected units × 100, and cannot exceed 100%.
Result: 12

Assumptions

A defective unit is a unit containing one or more defects (ASQ quality glossary), so the total defect count may legitimately exceed the number of inspected units.
Both rates use the same inspected-unit denominator entered above.

Limitations

Defective units cannot exceed inspected units; total defects are deliberately not capped.
This rate is not a sampling plan and does not decide lot acceptance.
