Formula or method

ΔE*ab (CIE 1976) = √(ΔL*² + Δa*² + Δb*²) per roll; a roll joins the approved band when ΔE*ab ≤ the accepted tolerance, otherwise it is banded separately.

Assumptions

ΔL*, Δa* and Δb* come from an instrument report measured against the approved standard under one agreed illuminant and observer.
The accepted tolerance is the buyer-authorized ΔE*ab limit for this fabric and colour.

Limitations

CIE 1976 ΔE*ab only. It does not apply CMC, ΔE2000 or any buyer-specific weighting, and it does not read images.
Banding decisions still require visual assessment in the agreed light box before cutting.
