Learning objectives

  • Explain the purpose of benefits confirmation and financial validation in a garment-factory improvement project.
  • Apply the described method to a representative shop-floor situation.
  • Recognize the common mistakes and how to avoid them.

Concept

Benefits confirmation proves sustained operational and financial effect using agreed baselines, volumes, attribution, and finance rules.

Compare normalized baseline and post-change performance; account for volume/mix, ramp-up, recurring costs, redeployment, seasonality, other initiatives, and confidence.

Operational gain and booked financial gain may differ and must be labeled honestly.

Garment-factory example

Validate reduced rework labor only where minutes are redeployed or overtime/headcount cost changes; separately report capacity release.

Method

  1. Freeze the benefit formula in writing.
  2. Gather sustained data.
  3. Validate units and price with finance.
  4. Reconcile ledger where applicable.
  5. Run sensitivity.
  6. Obtain owner and finance sign-off.

Common mistakes

  • Annualizing a short pilot peak.
  • Claiming the same saving in quality and productivity buckets.
