The daily work

  • Time-study operations and maintain the SMV and capacity study for every style.
  • Balance the line at style change-over and re-balance when bottleneck operations shift.
  • Prepare layout, workstation and attachment plans before a new style hits the floor.
  • Report hourly output, efficiency and off-standard time, and drive the corrective action with supervisors.
  • Cost labour minutes for the merchandising team during quotation.

Skills employers screen for

  • Excel to a genuinely working standard (pivot tables, lookup, charts)
  • Basic lean tools: takt, bottleneck analysis, 5S, waste walk
  • Confidence talking to supervisors and operators on the floor

Qualification

Diploma or degree in apparel manufacturing, textile or industrial engineering. Many factories hire trainees straight from institute and train the IE method internally.

How to get in

  1. 1.Finish the free lean and operations material, then time-study a real operation on any sewing machine you can access and write it up.
  2. 2.Apply as Trainee IE / IE Officer — the standard graduate entry title in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
  3. 3.Bring one worked example to interview: an operation, its SMV, the bottleneck and what you would change.
