The daily work

  • Read and judge test reports: shrinkage, colour fastness, pilling, strength, GSM.
  • Run inspection of incoming fabric rolls (4-point system) and release or reject lots.
  • Set shrinkage and skew allowances for pattern and cutting.
  • Investigate fabric-related claims with the mill and hold them to the standard.

  • Test standards (ISO / AATCC / ASTM) and what each number actually means
  • Fabric construction, yarn count, GSM and finishing effects
  • 4-point inspection and lot release judgement
  • Technical negotiation with mills

Qualification

Textile engineering or technology degree, or lab experience in a mill.
